TCP Security Servers are manufactured by Terian Solutions
Terian TCP Security Servers FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
- Who is Terian Solutions LLC?
Terian Solutions LLC is computing solutions provider located in Houston Texas. We supply and manufacture computing products that are widely used by MIS/IT departments, data centers, geophysical processing centers, system integrators and computer resellers around the country.
The management and staff at Terian Solutions has been making Intel-based and AMD-based computing platforms since 1991. Many thousands of Terian servers and workstations have been installed worldwide. Long a major player in the UNIX and Linux marketplace, Terian Solutions works closely with reseller and enterprise partners to deliver reliable computing platforms in both standard and built-to-order configurations.
- What is a Terian TCP Server?
The Terian TCP Security Server is a firewall that protects your corporate network from unwanted data intrusions, denial-of-service attacks and other Internet-based security risks. Terian TCP Security Servers are open source, open architecture computing platforms built with the finest components available today.
The Terian TCP Security Server is a preconfigured Firewall/VPN device that:
- Is powered by the latest Intel processors. You have your choice of Celeron, Pentium and Xeon processors in a variety of open architecture configurations.
- Uses a special hardened version of the Linux operating system that maximizes performance while minimizing OS-based security issues.
- Comes preloaded with latest software from Check Point Software Technologies. You decide which software is best for your network, choosing from the complete Check Point product line.
- Is the Terian TCP a solidly engineered platform?
Yes. Computing professionals have long relied on the Terian product line to provide years of reliable operation with designed-in configurability and expandability.
The line of Terian TCP Security Servers are based on state-of-the-art components designed and manufactured by Intel, AMD, Fujitstu and other industry-leading vendors. (For example, each of the TCP models use motherboards manufactured by Intel, the world's leading manufacturer of processors and motherboards).
But beyond that, our in-house staff of engineers selects from the most dependable and reliable components available to optimize the entire system's performance, and they then thoroughly analyze and test the complete system insure maximized performance and dependability.
What software does the Terian TCP use?
Each Terian TCP Security Server comes preloaded with the Check Point software family including VPN-1/Firewall-1 SmallOffice, Performance Pack, and SecurePlatform. (The preloaded Check Point software requires a license that may be obtained from any Check Point Partner.)
- What's the maximum throughput the Terian TCP can handle?
Depending on the model and configuration, Terian TCP Security Servers can handle just about as much traffic as you can throw at them.
The entry-level TCP11, with its 1.7GHz processor and dual 10/100 ports, has throughput of at least 178Kbps (based on our own tests and the information published by Check Point for similarly configured systems). Of course, by adding a faster processor and the optional 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port, you can expect throughput to significantly increase.
The mid-range TCP13, with a single 2.0GHz Xeon processor and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, has throughput that exceeds 1.27 Gbps based on specs published by Check Point for similarly configured systems. The processor, memory and Ethernet ports are all configurable options in the TCP13, allowing even greater throughput to be obtained.
The high-end TCP23, with dual 2.0GHz Xeon processors and up to 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports, can easily handle 3.1 Gbps of traffic, again based on Check Point's own published specifications for similarly configured systems. Those specs were for dual Xeon systems with dual Gigabit ports -- what the upper limit is for dual-Xeon/8-port systems is a question that remains open. (Tests run at the Check Point "proof of concept" lab in Dallas showed that this configuration could move more data than that lab could generate.)
In the final analysis, there's often not a correct answer for just how much throughput a specific system might have. Actual throughput truly depends on the topography of the network being protected and the particular type of traffic present on that network.
The best way to determine if the Terian TCP can work in your environment -- and which is the right unit for your network -- is to have a demonstration unit installed.
